Hidalgo Adams

A self-taught sculptor, he began in wood — carving and relief — and in 1984 apprenticed in the studio of the sculptor Guma, refining his work in wood, bronze, terracotta and soapstone.

He is now among Brazil’s leading sculptors in stone. His work runs from the figurative to spare abstraction, in marble, granite and steel, including large-scale pieces for public squares and private collections. O Abraço — the Embrace — a form he has returned to in variations over the years, is his best-known work.
