Born in Penedo, Alagoas, he moved to Salvador at twenty and entered the UFBA School of Fine Arts in 1975, also studying philosophy there. He spent twelve years at the Teatro Castro Alves as a set and costume designer.
His painting is dense, built at the crossing of cubism, fauvism, abstraction and action painting. He won first prize at the 2nd University Salon of Visual Arts in João Pessoa in 1979 and directed the Rodin Bahia Museum at the Palacete das Artes.
