Véio

Cícero Alves dos Santos — Véio — carves branches and trunks gathered from the caatinga in the Sergipe backlands. He does not impose a form on the wood: he finds in it the animal, the figure, the face already there, and completes it with a few cuts and colour.

He has worked since the 1970s, far from the circuit, until being brought into major Brazilian and international contemporary art exhibitions. In his birthplace he keeps the Museu do Véio, at once house and collection.
