Johnny Friedlaender

One of the great printmakers of the twentieth century. Imprisoned in concentration camps under the Nazi regime, he took refuge in Paris after the war and became a French citizen in 1950.

He pioneered colour etching and turned his Paris studio into a school for a whole generation of artists — among them the Brazilian Arthur Luiz Piza. He exhibited in Germany, France, Italy, Japan, the United States and Brazil, and was awarded at the Kamakura Biennial in Japan.
