Sculptor, draughtsman, printmaker and painter, he belonged to Bahia’s first modernist generation alongside Carlos Bastos and Genaro de Carvalho. Across seventy years of work he accumulated exhibitions, prizes and, above all, sculpture in open space: much of contemporary Salvador was drawn with pieces of his.
He worked in iron, wood and bronze and, from the 1960s, in polyester resin, a material he explored like no one else in Brazil. His work is held in Brazilian and international museums.
